Norfolk, situated on the East coast of the UK is a place that’s not easily accessible, making it a go-to, rather than a passing-through destination. The beauty of this fine county is that there are many hidden gems to be discovered.

It is the perfect place to escape the everyday rat-race, stargaze, bird watch, walk, cycle, explore miles of untouched sandy beaches and eat the best local produce this Norfolk jewel in East Anglia’s crown has to offer.
There are beautiful hotels, quirky AirBNB’s, flash contemporary hideaways with their own private access to wondrous coastal paths. There are also luxe bell tents where they are ready to welcome you and are situated in great locations just minutes away from award-winning pubs and restaurants and some of the best pristine beaches in the UK.
2Posh2Pitch? I’m not too posh; however, my brain fails to function with the idea of putting up a tent. Quite simply it just switches into log-off mode. (And no putting up a tent is not for me part of the fun of camping!)
Fizz loves camping!
Located at Burnham Thorpe, the birthplace of Horatio Nelson, this quaint village offers a welcome get-away. The 2posh2pitch dog-friendly bell tent is situated in the field of Whitehall Farm with unspoilt countryside views.
The bell tent is ready for you on your arrival together with a ready-made large double bed, side tables, a cool box with crockery and an outdoor BBQ and fire pit.
There’s no electricity with this bell tent, but lots of torches are supplied with strings of fairy lights and bunting making for a romantic setting.
Camping – Inside the bell tent
With no heating, towards the end of the summer season, nights can be fairly cold, so be aware, packing thermals to sleep in is a good idea! Camping here is perfect if you like stargazing, Norfolk boasts some of the darkest skies in the country making it ideal for spotting shooting stars!
There’s shared on-site washing facilities, showers, wash basins, toilets, fridge, freezer, microwave and a washing up area. As this is a non-electric pitch, there is a mobile phone charging station in the kitchen.
Five minutes’ drive is Burnham Market, also known as ‘ChelseaonSea’ and ‘Burnham Mark Up’, made famous by various celebrity bods who used to frequent the now not so trendy The Hoste. Instead, the beautiful people are dining out at Number 29, a buzzy restaurant and bar located in the heart of the village serving everything from roast dinners and pizzas to deliciously grilled meat from their fire pit.

Hot competition also not to be missed is North Street Bistro, a dynamic duo called Holly and Dan who launched their contemporary and stylish eatery situated in the old bank this year. Serving amazing British food all sourced from Norfolk this is one place not to miss.
Along the same street you can secure a good hearty breakfast, lunch or high tea at The Burnhams Tearoom and Café that serves very responsibly priced food – not so Burnham Mark Up after all! You can get local food from Gurneys Fish Shop, Arthur Howells Butchery and Humble Pie Delicatessen selling fresh bread, cakes, local cheeses and honey as well as other wonderful specialist food.
Norfolk is famous for its plentiful pubs. If you like beer and gin, then there’s no shortage of local brands to look out for including Woodforde’s Wherry, Norfolk Gin, Bullards Gin and Norwich Gin.
On the doorstep are some picturesque places to visit. Park on Lady Anne’s Drive and walk to Holkham Beach (as seen on the Pride & Prejudice movie) via the pine woods or along the board walk, then enjoy a drink and the view at The Victoria Inn located at the entrance of Holkham Hall.
Norfolk Coast Path
Explore the Norfolk Coast Path with a walk from Burnham Overy Staithe towards GunHill point overlooking the sea at Holkham and have a welcome drink at The Hero.
On top of the world at GunHill
Head over to Brancaster Harbour and seek out The Crab Hut selling delicious prawn or crab baguettes, whelks, cockles. Just around the corner you will find the family-friendly Jolly Sailors and Brancaster White Horse which has stunning views overlooking the marshes. Watch the tide and the fishing boats come in with locally caught lobsters and crabs or a local fisherman giving a bag of baby oysters a drink following their delivery to the Norfolk coast from Morecombe Bay.
Further along the coast, visit the pretty village of Thornham for another experience of Norfolk fresh air and beautiful walks.
The lesser known Holme Beach is somewhere to put at the top of your list. It’s not as busy as the other well-known beaches such as Wells or Holkham but it is just as stunning, just be aware of the tides!

In this area there are many award winning places to eat and drink including the Thornham Deli, The Lifeboat Inn and The Orange Tree.
It’s easy to get around either by walking, cycling, by car or the regular Coasthopper Bus.
