The Christmas holiday season will soon be upon us and that has many families looking for weekend getaway ideas that are kid friendly and that offer that classic Christmas feel we all look forward to. Here at Love to Eat to Travel, we enjoy planning weekend holidays around the Christmas season and want to share some places right here in the UK that will give you that special Christmas feeling and make your holidays that much more special.

Here are my top four favourite weekend getaways that I think you and your family will enjoy!

Christmas in London

The UK’s capital city is especially festive during Christmas. Wherever you go, the smell of freshly roasted chestnuts and mulled wine fill the air. Be sure to visit Oxford and Regent Streets to see the array of twinkling lights and sample some of the best Christmas shopping you could want.

Beginning November 15th, you can enjoy the perfect Autumn or Winter weather ice skating at Somerset House on London’s most beautiful ice rink. Musically infused programs such as Skate Lates make holiday ice skating that much more fun and memorable. As always, The West Wing will be transformed into Fortnum’s Christmas Arcade.

Christmas in the Woods

The UK has many Christmas cabin packages that offer a rustic feel while your family spends Christmas morning sitting by the fire. The natural setting is away from the bustle of busy streets and overcrowded shops, but the service and amenities of tour operators such as Forest Holidays will make you feel right at home.

Christmas in an Alice in Wonderland cottage

In the heart of Brighton, is a very unique place that will help you create a magical Christmas experience for your children. The Looking Glass Cottage is an Alice in Wonderland themed holiday cottage complete with mismatched wallpapers, quirky trinkets and themed ornaments to replicate the wonderland world. The house sleeps six in three bedrooms and an additional two on the living room sofa beds, which makes this holiday adventure perfect for large or extended families.

Christmas in Wales

Wales offers a more traditional Christmas experience with packages offered by many of the local resorts including the Bluestone National Park Resort which offers pre-planned Christmas experiences based on your needs. From roasted chestnuts, to carolers, even a Christmas tree, the amenities at some of Wales’ best resorts are sure to make your Christmas a memorable one.
