Travelling is an exclusively personal thing. Even if you travel with a friend, roommate or spouse, you still have your own personal ideas of what you want from it and where you see yourself visiting. It’s that personal need that makes many people travel solo and experience the world through their own eyes, on their own schedule. If you are one who would rather travel solo than with a partner, keep reading as we are going to share some of our favourite solo travel destinations around the world.

1. Glasgow, UK

Glasgow is one of the friendliest cities in the UK and it is rated as the best city in the UK for solo travellers. Full of walking tours, local hot spots and excellent nightlife, Glasgow is a must visit when travelling solo.

2. Tokyo, Japan

If you are concerned with safety, Tokyo has been voted one of the safest places to go as a solo traveller. Plus, Tokyo has a lot to offer the solo traveller, karaoke bars in Roppongi, to shopping in Harajuku and taking a train journey on the Yurikamome line to experience a high-speed bullet train.

3. Amsterdam, Holland

Amsterdam seems to have been designed especially for the solo traveller. Their one-person restaurant Eenmaal is a prime example. You could take a relaxing bicycle tour, visit any of Amsterdam’s galleries and museums or meet new people in one the cities local bars and nightclubs.

4. Manchester, UK

Manchester has a lively underground music scene, a wide range of hole-in-the-wall bars and cafés and a culture rich art scene in Oxford Road. Manchester has more to see and do for a solo traveller than any other city in the UK.

5. Stockholm, Sweden

Finally, another favourite of ours for solo travel is Stockholm. Europe’s safest city, Stockholm makes it easy for solo travellers to visit. English is widely spoken and Stockholm has an excellent public transportation system that makes getting from one place to another easy.
